The Hancock Historical Society was incorporated in 1986 and the Hancock Museum opened the following year. It displays artifacts from all facets of town history and houses a large library of genealogy files, business memorabilia, and newspaper archives.

Displays are changed throughout the year with special attention given to former students and teachers and to area military residents. A Christmas Open House is held annually with displays of antique Christmas cards from local families dating back many generations.

The museum holds quarterly membership meetings per year with guest speakers who lecture on local history. Members receive a newsletter following each meeting
